FAQs
How do I get my files to you?
Simple. You can either share a Dropbox/Google drive link for download, mail a hard drive to our location, or drop one off. We do recommend that you always keep a copy on your end.
How do I get my files from you?
Shoot us an email. Pulling files from archive tapes can take quite a few hours, as the process is a bit different than a typical hard drive. If you anticipate needing a lot of your data immediately, we recommend going with the hard drive tier for faster delivery. A copy of your files will be made on our end before sending out a recovery drive to your address.
How does this compare to services like Dropbox?
Dropbox is designed to be a working storage system and is great when you are immediately working on a project that is constantly changing. Due to the immediate access to these files, Dropbox can be expensive to use as a long term storage solution.
What is this tape stuff you keep talking about?
Funny enough, LTO tape, or more specifically Linear Tape Open, is a technology that dates back from the 1990’s. It has remained as one of the highest quality, and stable versions of storage throughout the industry. A single LTO tape has an average lifespan of 15-30 years when stored properly.
What if I miss a payment, or cancel my subscription?
We throw everything into a fire…. Just kidding. Obviously, we don’t want to just throw away data that may be irreplaceable to your client, so we will do our best to reach out to you and confirm that you are no longer interested in storing your data. If you cancel, rest assured your media will be erased completely and securely.
Are there any other fees?
Shipping. Unfortunately, as great as technology is, we still can’t 3D print hard drives from one door to another. If you find yourself needing to mail in your files for storage, we just ask you to pay for shipping to and from our studio. The cost will depend upon your urgency to receive the drive. We recommend FedEx or USPS for all shipments.
